PARIS, Nov 24 (Reuters) – Low-cost carrier Wizz Air is seeking a bigger foothold at London Gatwick, but its ambitions may be hampered if regulators extend a freeze on airport slots in response to the coronavirus crisis, Chief Executive Jozsef Varadi said.
In an interview aired during the online Paris Air Forum on Tuesday, Varadi criticised the suspension of EU rules governing the competitive allocation of airport take-off and landing rights.
“It is one of the airports we’re talking to, but I have no idea what’s going to happen to these slots,” Varadi said of Gatwick, the UK’s second aviation hub after Heathrow.
“First I would like to see the regulator take position on that.”
Well-funded budget carriers are in positioned to dominate an eventual recovery powered by medium-haul leisure travel. Like his Ryanair rival Michael O’Leary, Varadi expects a fare-cutting frenzy.
“The market will have to be re-stimulated,” he said.
“There’s going to be a lot of competition, there’s going to be price wars.”
Under normal slot rules, airlines that fail to use 80% of their take-off and landing rights have to cede some of the slots to competitors.
Brussels suspended the “use-it-or-lose-it” principle this year so that grounded airlines could keep slots.
The waiver has been prolonged once despite Wizz’s objections, and สล็อต traditional carriers are pressing for another extension beyond March.
“If airlines lose their slots the global network will crumble,” IATA, which represents major airlines, said in a presentation on Monday.
“Airlines are in no state to be operating 80% of slots right now.”
Whether Britain must abide by any EU decision on a further waiver extension could depend on the outcome of talks on a post-Brexit aviation deal, adding more complexity.
“We can keep deferring to COVID-19 forever, but the fact of the matter is that there are airlines who are capable and able to recover quickly,” Varadi said.
“And there are airlines that will be dragging for a long time or may never come out of this,” he added.
“It’s almost criminal to hold the slots they don’t have any intention to operate.”
Norwegian Air has filed for bankruptcy protection in Ireland, deepening doubts over its suspended Gatwick operations. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic may not return to the airport at pre-crisis strength.
Varadi’s push to open up slots is gaining some support.
Ryanair, which backed the last waiver extension, now opposes further prolongation, CEO O’Leary said this month. Gatwick boss Stewart Wingate also called website for สล็อต a return to normal rules.
Since the start of the pandemic, สล็อต Wizz has continued taking plane deliveries while announcing new routes and aircraft bases.
Varadi warns that airports will need to cut their own costs to attract more traffic.
“We’re seeing many more opportunities than we can pursue – we have become very selective,” he said in the interview. “Many of the airports are pretty much begging for the capacity we can bring to them.” (Reporting by Laurence Frost; Additional reporting by Tim Hepher and Sarah Young; Editing by Pravin Char)

When the latest James Bond premiere was called off in March because of the coronavirus outbreak, it came as a shock. But No Time to Die was just the first in a cascade of movie blockbusters canceled or postponed, causing a reshuffle of the release schedule throughout 2020 and 2021. The ripples will be felt even beyond next year, as the Avatar sequels and the next Star Wars movies are affected.
We’ve laid out the revised box office calendar to show when (or if) 2020’s big movies are arriving in movie theaters. You can stream a bunch of recent releases early, but the return of watching movies inside theaters will be a major signal that we’re coming out on the other side of the pandemic.
CNET Coronavirus Update
Keep track of the coronavirus pandemic.
Here’s how the new release dates stack up:
Greyhound (streaming now)
Tom Hanks stars in and directs this World War II epic about a convoy of ships battling U-boats. Apple TV Plus announced May 19 that it will premiere Greyhound on the streaming service, making this one of the biggest movies to skip theaters entirely. It’s a coup for Apple’s streaming service, which has created plenty of original content but still has some catching up to do against Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Original release date: June 19, 2020
Tenet (out now)
Tenet tested the waters for theaters around the globe.
When the rest of the summer blockbusters delayed, Warner Bros. held its nerve and stuck to the planned date much longer than the rest. Christopher Nolan’s time-twisting thriller therefore felt like the big hope for movie theaters desperate to reopen, but after shuffling back a couple of weeks and then moving again to August, Tenet was entirely removed from the schedule in mid-July. It finally opened internationally Aug. 26 before heading to select US theaters over the Labor Day weekend in September. But even if theaters are open, audiences are still wary of gathering, and box office receipts are likely to suffer as a result. Whether or not you want to risk it, read our spoiler-free review of Tenet or our (spoiler-packed) explanation of Tenet’s ending and most WTF questions.
Original release date: July 17, 2020
The One and Only Ivan (streaming now)
As the movie theaters pile up with blockbusters, Disney has moved some of its films from the theatrical schedule straight to streaming service Disney Plus. You can watch Artemis Fowl and The One and Only Ivan online after their theatrical releases were cancelled.
Original release date: Aug. 14, 2020
The New Mutants (out now)
Easily one of the most troubled movies ever to limp into production, X-Men spinoff The New Mutants was originally slated to be released in 2018, and had already been moved twice when Disney’s acquisition of Fox set it back yet again. That made the fourth postponement for the teen-centric comic book chiller starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams, before a late August release date was booked in. It’s finally been released, marking a disappointing end for the X-Men movie series.
Original release date: April 2020
Bill and Ted Face the Music (streaming now)
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter return in this long-awaited sequel, which was bumped a little up the schedule — but more importantly, at Comic-Con 2020 the filmmakers announced a day-and-date on-demand release so you can watch online even if you can’t make it to theaters. Read our review of Bill and Ted Face the Music here. Excellent!
Original release date: Aug. 21
Mulan (streaming now)
Mulan was pulled from theaters just before it was due to be released.
Disney’s live-action Mulan reboot has been something of a canary in a coalmine for spring and summer movies, as it’s been nudged incrementally up the calendar before getting an online release for an unexpected price. It was first postponed in March, สล็อต less than two weeks before it was supposed to open. Disney then reshuffled its entire slate on April 3, moving Mulan to late July and then August. But as July came to an end and สล็อต the theater industry still wasn’t up and running, Disney took it off schedule entirely — and then, finally, made the decision to release it on streaming service Disney Plus for an extra cost. Despite missing the big screen, the new version of Mulan for 2020 is still timely and thrilling (even without the songs).
Original release date: March 27, 2020
Antebellum (streaming now)
Janelle Monae stars in this chilling horror story about a modern woman transported to the era of slavery. Originally slated to open in April and then August, Antebellum now skips theaters for a streaming release in September.
Original release date: April 2020
David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet (Streaming now)
David Attenborough’s latest nature documentary, made with the World Wide Fund for Nature, was postponed from its original spring release. Interestingly, it wasn’t just the cinema release that was canceled: The film was due to stream on Netflix in April, but that was suspended too. “Our decision to postpone the film release [allows] viewers to enjoy the big-screen experience,” said the WWF in an email to CNET, “as well as giving Sir David Attenborough’s message the incredible reach afforded by the Netflix platform.” The documentary was rescheduled for selected theaters in late September followed by a streaming premiere Oct. 4.

Wonder Woman 1984 (in theaters and streaming Dec. 25)
Warner Bros held out until March 24 before announcing that the Wonder Woman sequel would be delayed. Although many big movies moved to much later in the year or were taken off the slate entirely, Wonder Woman 1984 originally committed to hitting theaters on Aug. 14 — which proved overly optimistic. It was shifted to October and then to the holidays. As Thanksgiving approached, Warner Bros announced that the film will stream on HBO Max at the same time as a theatrical release on Dec. 25.
Original release date: June 2020
Soul (streaming Dec. 25)
Pixar takes you on a jazz odyssey for this musical animation, which stuck to its planned early summer release date for a while. Disney has so many films on the schedule it wasn’t clear when there’d be a new slot for Soul, but it was first moved to November. Then, as of October, Soul skipped theaters entirely for a streaming debut on Disney Plus at Christmas.
Original release date: June 19
Candyman (unspecified date, 2021)
This horror remake directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Jordan Peele was pushed to September, but with no sign of theaters opening it was bumped to October and then into 2021.

No Time to Die (April 2, 2021)
Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007, directed by Cary Fukunaga and co-written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, was the first major movie to delay release. No Time to Die had already lost its original director and changed its release date twice, but producers feared the closure of many theaters around the globe due to coronavirus would harm box office takings in lucrative international markets. This first delay was announced March 4, a week before the World Health Organization declared a pandemic, but even then pushing to November seemed drastic. By October it was clear theaters still weren’t able to open in the US and UK, so the new James Bond installment will now open a year later than originally expected.

The legendary Cannes film festival was called off March 19. Originally scheduled to open May 12, the year’s most prestigious industry gathering was postponed as part of France’s measures to combat the virus.

New York’s Tribeca Film Festival also was canceled. As with all major events undone by coronavirus, cancelations will have a knock-on effect on local businesses and employees.
Filming on assorted forthcoming productions has been interrupted: Mission: Impossible 7 was unable to shoot in virus-hit Venice, for example, while Baz Luhrmann’s biopic of Elvis Presley was disrupted when Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson revealed they’d tested positive for COVID-19. Indiana Jones 5, Jurassic World 3, The Batman, The Matrix 4, Fantastic Beasts 3, Avatar 2 and many more have been disrupted.
Netflix, Apple, Disney and other streaming services have been forced to pause production on shows from Stranger Things and The Morning Show to Marvel spin-off Falcon and Winter Soldier.

Google PixelBook Go delivers a premium Chromebook experience.
Chromebooks are laptops and two-in-ones running on laptop, but the minimalistic, web-browser-based Chrome OS is a different experience from the Windows and MacOS laptops you’re likely used to. When Chromebooks first arrived in 2011 they were routinely derided — and rightfully so — for their limited functionality and reliance on a consistent internet connection. Today’s Chromebooks are far from where they started, but some things haven’t changed and you might not be willing to work with the limitations they do have. Also, if you don’t feel like reading this and would just rather experience Chrome OS, here’s how to temporarily run it on any laptop using an inexpensive USB flash drive you probably already have laying around.
The software situation
When Chrome OS launched it was essentially Google’s Chrome web browser. For those used to an operating system like WIndows and สล็อต Mac, it made the average Chromebook seem like little more than a laptop that runs a web browser and that’s all.
Even if the Chrome OS never matured beyond that, the fact is quite a lot can be done entirely on the web these days. Take stock of everything you do on a daily basis and you may find there’s nothing you can’t accomplish with Chrome at its most basic level.
That said, a Windows laptop or MacBook can run the Chrome browser as well as other software supported by those operating systems. Even if you don’t immediately need a particular piece of software, it’s nice to have the option. Plus, if you’re shopping for a Chromebook for remote learning with Google Classroom, a Mac or Windows PC will work as well.
Along those lines, Chromebooks are not natively compatible with Windows or Mac software. You can use VMware on Chromebooks to run Windows applications, and there’s support for Linux software, too. Plus, current models can run Android apps and there are also web apps that are available through Google’s Chrome Web Store.

One of the big hurdles here for many people is access to Microsoft Office. You can’t install the full Office software on a Chromebook, but Microsoft makes both web-based and Android versions available in the Chrome and Google Play stores, respectively. But generally speaking, if you need or want a specific Windows or Mac application — and there’s no suitable web or Android app substitute and you don’t want to use VMware — don’t get a Chromebook.
Also, if you need advanced photo- and video-editing capabilities, you’ll want a regular laptop. Chromebooks typically don’t offer the graphics performance you need for demanding tasks or, again, the option to install Windows or Mac games and software. On the other hand, with streaming-game services like Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now, Chromebooks can now be used for more than Android and browser-based games.
A diverse range of devices
A few years ago, all Chromebooks were pretty much the same regardless of what company made them. Now, there’s a far greater variety of laptops and two-in-ones — convertibles and tablets — to take advantage of Chrome OS’s current capabilities. You’ll still find more sizes and styles when it comes to Windows laptops, especially if you need top processing and graphics performance, but the variety of options is much better than in the past.
If you’re just after a good, basic experience with a Chromebook, the small, lightweight OS has minimal hardware requirements and the same goes for web apps. Having a higher-end processor and more memory will help keep demanding multitaskers moving along, but otherwise here’s what I recommend when I’m asked what specs to get:
4GB of memory or more
32GB of storage
Full HD (1,920×1,080-pixel) display
There is flexibility with these recommendations. You can get a 1,366×768-resolution display, for example, but the cheap ones used in low-end Chromebooks look particularly soft next to full-HD models. And you can get by with 16GB of onboard storage as long as there’s a microSD card slot to supplement it. Unlike a regular laptop, a Chromebook relies more on cloud storage for files rather than local storage. It’s also worth noting that many times storage and memory are soldered on and can’t be upgraded after the fact.
Web connection (mostly) required
When Chromebooks first launched they basically became paperweights when they were offline — a real issue if you were in the middle of editing an important document you suddenly couldn’t save because your web connection dropped. Things have thankfully gotten better as Google improved offline capabilities and common apps like Netflix, YouTube and Spotify have offline options as well.

For a regular laptop, being offline is a little less of a problem since you’re using installed software that saves to internal storage. While neither experience is great offline these days, Chromebooks are not a great choice if you’re not willing and able to be online most of the time.
How Chromebooks became the go-to laptops for security experts
Best laptop deals 2020: Windows and Chromebooks for under $500
Because of the low hardware requirements of Chrome OS, not only can Chromebooks be lighter and smaller than the average laptop, they’re generally less expensive, too.
New Windows laptops for $200 are few and far between and, สล็อต frankly, are rarely worth buying. Finding a good $200 Chromebook, on the other hand, is pretty easy to do (or at least it was prior to COVID). And while spending more will get you better build quality, more features or faster performance, even these premium Chromebooks typically start between $400 and $500, but can easily run more than over $1,000 depending on your needs.
With Windows laptops, you typically need to spend $700 or more to get a thin, lightweight model with decent performance and battery life that will hold its performance for years to come.
The simplicity of a Chromebook can’t be beat. If everything you do can be done in a web browser or with web or Android apps, there’s little reason not to go with a Chrome device. Although with Linux and VMware support, you can do much more today than when they first arrived in 2011.

With a broad range of designs, sizes and styles that can be configured with all kinds of components and available with prices going from a couple hundred dollars to thousands, a Windows or Mac laptop offers greater variety in performance and use, especially if you want to easily use software or play games only available on those operating systems.
With the nation still basking in the afterglow of the Socceroos’ historic qualification for the 2006 World Cup, there’s little doubt that football videogames (we can call soccer football now, apparently) will be a hot item this Christmas.
If you’re a new passenger on the bandwagon, here’s a quick lay of the land. There’re two major franchises when it comes to football games – EA’s FIFA series and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer (known as Winning Eleven in Japan). The FIFA series is the more popular, featuring excellent presentation, hundreds of licensed teams and แทงบอลออนไลน์ players, and solid gameplay. But the PES series has been slowly making ground thanks to its dogged determination to be tough as nails to play. FIFA may have the flash and pizzazz, but PES makes you work hard for every single goal.
For newbies, playing Pro Evolution Soccer 5 can be a daunting experience. The instruction booklet for the PC version is enough to make first timers pause – there are controls for through balls, trapping, reversals, one-two passes, dribbling pace, feints, tackles, pressure, defence levels, set pieces, feeds, super cancels, แทงบอล different types of crosses and much, much more.
Hitting the virtual pitch in a match will also prove to be problematic for newcomers. Unlike other football games for consoles or arcades, the ball does not magically stick to a player’s foot in PES. If you run too fast and the ball dribbles forward, you won’t be able to pass until you catch up. And even when you do pass, balls won’t automatically fly to a free team mate. Keeping control of the ball is everything in PES 5.
This added control and realism may turn off casual gamers, but it’s the main reason the PES series has become must-have games for แทงบอลออนไลน์ hardcore football fanatics. You won’t be playing to 12-0 blow-outs here, nor will you find your every shot on goal hitting the back of the net. Just like real-life football, patience, smart passing, clever control and a little luck are the only ways to win big matches.
Veterans to the series will be pleased to know that only minor tweaks have been made to the already excellent control system. Other additions to PES 5 include a greater roster of licensed teams and players (such as Arsenal and Chelsea from the Premier League), on-line play and more player-specific moves. There are plenty of national sides available as well, including Australia’s full roster should you wish to relive the recent glory against Uruguay. Most importantly, however, the difficulty has been ramped up in PES 5. Newbies can still find their feet in the lower levels, but a whole new sixth level of difficulty (initially locked) has been added for PES masters keen to test their mettle.
Which is not to say that first timers will find little joy in PES 5. The game’s extensive tutorial levels have seemingly been designed to take complete strangers to the round ball game through all the intricacies of PES 5. The tutorials dumb it right down – there is a section in PES 5 purely for explaining the rules of the football, แทงบอลออนไลน์ while there are other training drills just for dribbling or passing. These tutorials are essential for anyone new to the series.
While there are the obligatory exhibition and tournament modes in PES 5, players will most likely spend most of their time in the game’s extensive Master League mode. Master League allows players to mould and shape a team to international glory. As with the gameplay when on the field, the level of control afforded players in managing their squads is extraordinary. Gamers can determine the level of training, condition their players pre-match, trade or buy players, develop new recruits, retire older ones, check out stats on opponents and much more. It’s a dizzying array of choice, and it really helps immerse gamers in the fantasy of managing a big league football team.
Backing up its intricate gameplay is PES 5’s excellent presentation. It’s still not as flashy or pretty as recent EA FIFA offerings, but the players in PES 5 do exhibit plenty of detail and, for the most part, look like their real world counterparts. The PES 5 players also move in a very realistic way.
If you’re after a pick up and play football game, then PES 5’s steep learning curve means it may not be the title of choice for you. If, however, you’re keen on honing your skills, putting in the hours of practice and perseverance to eventually be as dextrous with your thumbs as Ronaldinho is on the field, the PES 5 is a top choice. And if you’re a PES veteran, the decision is even simpler – PES 5 is another winner.
